11. Narcosea. The tango singer
While in her office, the news reached Máxima that a tourist from Mompiche had died of hemorrhagic dengue fever. Soon the Tres Vías office was full of patients from that town who were experiencing panic.
With a young dentist, who was part of the team, they went to the community to make sure what the problem was, which seemed only a rumor, maybe the foreigner had died from other causes.
Upon reaching the community, they visited the hotel where the deceased was staying. Like all the places in the area there were mosquitoes, during the day the Aedes aegypti and at night the Anopheles, which she knew well, because they besieged her in the home of the health promoters in Puerto Nuevo, where she lived.
Upon arrival at the hotel there were no abnormalities, they searched the town looking for how people disposed of solid waste. There was a tire deposit, with the help of the community they made a bonfire in which they burned those tires, plastic containers, and other combustible things that could harbor mosquitoes.
At school they gave a talk for the children to communicate to their parents how to fight the mosquito. The auxiliary of the sub-center confirmed the death of a foreigner and indicated that they were using abate in the water containers because the town's drinking water system, which was being built with the help of Decameron in a large hotel, was not yet in operation, then the people gathered the rainwater to drink and cook and all the women went to the river to wash. That was the village gossip laboratory.
At noon they went to eat and the dish was grilled prawns, in the restaurant of a friend of his father who met when he was a doctor in Atacames. The man told him that the biggest problem in the town was the aguajes that were eating up the beach and threatening the houses. They had built a wall of rocks but the sea jumped over the wall, reaching the hotels and restaurants.
An Argentine arrived at the place who greeted everyone, as all the tables were occupied, he asked permission to sit at Máxima's table.
He was a white young man with black hair who kept elegance, and a way of speaking no different from other Argentines.
-I am Sergio, a professional tango singer- while he extended his hand to Máxima.
- Nice to meet you, I'm Máxima, the Peasant Social Security doctor.
- What is the Rural Social Security, something different from the Ministry of Health ?.
- It is an insurance paid by Ecuadorians affiliated with the Social Security Institute, that is, those who have a salary for farmers, they only contribute two dollars and receive medical attention, hospitalization, laboratory, rehabilitation.
- Caray, what a good thing, I have not heard that in other countries and I have traveled Latin America from top to bottom, right now I come from the Dominican Republic.
- Are you going to sing here in Mompiche?
. If Decámeron has hired me, they now have many Argentine tourists, just like this beach. Tonight is my debut. I'd love for you to join me. You would be my guest.
- Wow ... how nice.
- I need an opinion like yours to improve my performance.
- Okay. I will go
- I will be at the entrance waiting for you, my presentation is only for hotel clients, so I must go to make arrangements for you to see me.
Máxima rented a room in the neighboring hotel to which the foreigner died, which she found very pleasant, that night she arrived in a taxi at the hotel. Sergio received her, introduced her to her manager and took her to the restaurant room, with an audience where her presentation was being prepared.
The singer's presentation was applauded several times and in the end he made a dedication to Máxima.
-For my special guest, Dr. Máxima from Seguro Social Campesino, who works in the area, tango ... Por una Cabeza.
After that presentation Sergio accompanied Máxima to her hotel and asked her
- Well doctor, I'll be here this week and then I have to appear at the Casas de la Cultura in Quito.
- I live in Quito with my mother and my daughter. If you like, you can come to our house.
- I'll be traveling on Friday night. Almost every week I travel to Quito, my daughter is studying and only on vacation does she come to accompany me.
- You can go by bus from here to Esmeraldas and from there to Quito, right?
- Yes.
- I propose that we meet here on Friday night and we travel together to Quito.
- It's okay.
- In Esmeraldas they took the last Panamericana bus that left them at Av. Colon, near Máxima's house.
- We had to wait about two hours and queue to buy tickets.
The place was a bustle, typical of that place where Afros lived the joyful hustle and bustle, part of their culture.
The trip was the typical bus trip, 6 hours of watching action movies all night,
